Life is Curious.

For Active Lifelong Learners, The Woodlands at Furman is a Feast for Curious Minds.

Our residents share a youthful curiosity and a love of lifelong learning. Among our resident population, you’ll find retired and semi-retired academics, teachers, engineers, writers, medical professionals, business leaders and a number of accomplished individuals from a wide range of fields and industries.

Our partnership with Furman University, a high-ranked private liberal arts university located adjacent to The Woodlands, is a winning combination where residents create a life steeped in collegiate connection and activities.

All about OLLI.

Whether by driving, biking, walking, taking a golf cart or the community shuttle, you can get to class at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) in a matter of minutes. Located adjacent to The Woodlands campus, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute provides a wide array of noncredit courses and activities developed for adults 50+. Each weekday, they offer up to a dozen classes, activities and outings at their very own building. You can enroll in classes, lectures, hands-on experiences, day trips and cultural events.

The University next door.

While The Woodlands is quiet and serene, it is nice to know that you’re just a short jaunt away from youthful vibrancy and intergenerational connections. Furman University welcomes our residents with open arms, and the students also join us in our community as team members and volunteers. As a resident, you can:

  • Play golf at Furman University Golf Club when you like
  • Get a university library card
  • Explore nearby campus hiking and walking trails
  • Enjoy discounts to Furman music performances and athletic events
  • Participate in the Adopt-a-Grandparent/Adopt-a-Grandchild program, which pairs you with a Furman student. It’s an opportunity to mentor, to learn and to stay connected to a younger generation.

The Woodlands personal approach to lifelong learning.

Beyond Furman University and OLLI, we offer robust educational activities and life enrichment programs at The Woodlands campus, all based on the interests of our residents.

Currently, we have a religious studies program with guest lecturers who speak on wellness, current events, religion, history, travel and much more. Our clubs include writing clubs, golfing, card games and many other partnerships, including with the Greenville Technical College.
