Rooted in Community: Giving Back at The Woodlands Foundation

The spirit of giving has become a cornerstone of our close-knit community at The Woodlands. What started in 2013 as a fund to support residents has since evolved into a broad, community-driven mission led by our wonderful Foundation team. The Woodlands Foundation benefits not only our residents but also our dedicated team members and the wider community. As a non-profit, we are deeply rooted in the values of compassion and service, and we strive to make a positive impact on all who are part of The Woodlands family.

In this blog, we’re going to highlight a few of the top contributions and features of the Foundation, but first, we want to remind you that our Annual Valentine’s Day Gala is just around the corner—and tickets are still available!

You’re Invited to Our Annual Valentine’s Day Gala

This year’s “Legacy of Love” Valentine’s Day Gala will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Evergreen Dining Room in Independent Living, a stunning location known for its inviting atmosphere and elegant setting. This romantic dinner event promises an enchanting evening, bringing together community members to celebrate love and philanthropy. Notable Foundation Contributions Over the Years

Reflecting on the Foundation’s growth, we are continually inspired by the generosity of our residents and friends. Their donations have created a lasting impact, transforming lives and enhancing the quality of life here at The Woodlands.

One of the most notable contributions is the Janifer & David Johnson Wellness Clinic, made possible by the generosity of David and Jan Johnson. This clinic has become a vital resource for both residents and staff, offering a range of health and wellness services that support overall well-being within the community. Another remarkable gift came from an anonymous donor, who contributed a beautiful Steinway piano for the Camellia Room, elevating the cultural experiences within The Woodlands and enabling world-class musical performances. We are deeply grateful for their support and want to emphasize that donations of all sizes are welcome, as they continue to make a meaningful difference.

The Woodlands Foundation Funds: Enriching Lives Across the Community

The Woodlands Foundation is proud to offer several specific funds that allow donors to make a targeted impact based on their passions. These funds support different aspects of our community, including:

  • The Good Neighbor Fund: A direct extension of our Life Care promise, this fund supports residents facing financial hardships through no fault of their own, such as outliving their resources.
  • The Staff Hardship Fund: Established to assist team members experiencing life crises, this fund helps staff members with unforeseen challenges, such as medical bills or loss of income.
  • The Educational Missions Fund: Designed to support team members’ educational goals, this fund includes scholarships, training and educational reimbursement to help staff grow professionally.
  • The Trailhead Capital Fund: Aimed at enhancing the physical spaces of our community, this fund allows residents to help shape the community’s future with their unique visions and passions.
  • The Employee Appreciation Fund: A long-standing tradition, this fund enables residents to express their gratitude to staff through end-of-year gifts.

Legacy Giving: Creating a Lasting Impact

For those looking to make a more long-term contribution, The Woodlands Foundation offers several planned giving options. Through legacy giving, residents can make a meaningful impact on the community, ensuring that their passions continue to benefit future generations. Whether through bequests, stock donations or life insurance policies, planned gifts provide a lasting legacy of philanthropy.

One of the most accessible options for legacy giving is the Entrance Fee Beneficiary Gift Appreciation Fund, where residents can designate a portion of their entrance fee to the Foundation. This simple, impactful gift allows residents to contribute to the community in a meaningful way, creating a lasting legacy that continues to benefit future generations.

Ways to Give:

There are many ways to support The Woodlands Foundation, whether through one-time gifts or ongoing contributions. Some of the most common ways to give include:

  • Cash, check or credit card donations
  • IRA distributions to satisfy your RMD
  • Gifts of securities or appreciated assets
  • Planned gifts or life insurance

No matter the size or type of gift, every contribution helps support the people and initiatives that make The Woodlands a special place to live and work.
