Vaccine Update

Today is a big day for The Woodlands!  We anticipate that by the end of the day, most of our Independent Living residents will have had their second Moderna shot. The good news is that soon we will be able to lessen several restrictions and start getting back to normal.  We’ll send more information about a phased approach to normalcy next week.

We will proceed with caution. COVID-19 restrictions on visitation, testing, mask use, social distancing etc. have not been revised by the regulatory agencies at this time, despite growing rates of vaccination.  While we believe two shots of the vaccine protect individuals from becoming seriously ill from the virus, we don’t know yet if vaccinated individuals can transfer the virus to others.  The vaccines’ effectiveness against transmissibility is being evaluated, but in order to get good data, more people need to be vaccinated. We hear a lot: “Why get vaccinated if it won’t make a difference?” It does make a difference.  If more people get vaccinated, fewer people will get sick. That means lower community rates, which means fewer outbreaks and lower county positivity rates. So keep your eyes on the prize, practice social distancing, and cover your mouth and nose with a mask, please!

Starting next week, we will be using a new lab to process our resident Covid-19 tests for faster results and testing will be moved to Wednesday beginning Wednesday, Feb.10th. The hours (10:00 am-2:00 pm) and location in the Community Village remain the same.

Current Total Active Cases*

Currently, we have only one known active case of the virus at The Woodlands!  The positive IL staff member was exposed to the virus about 10 days ago.  The staff member immediately quarantined, awaiting test results. Because of the precautionary measures taken, there is no risk of virus spreading from the staff member here at The Woodlands.

Kudos to everyone who has contributed to the safety of our community.
